The First Kennedys

1. John (Scotland) Kennedy

John was born in 1731 in Scotland. His parents left Scotland because of religious Persecution in about 1736 and settled in Northern Ireland. John departed left Northern Ireland (when he reached manhood) and arrived in New Jersey, USA in about 1748..

John was employed about (est) 1750 at Perth Amboy, Middlesex County, N.J., USA by a Fur Trading Company erroneously recorded in early histories as the Hudson Bay Company. The Hudson Bay Company never operated outside of Canada.

He fought in the French and Indian wars for the British army and was taken prisoner in about 1756 at Fort Schlosser, near Niagara Falls. He was taken as Prisoner of War to Kingston, Montreal, then Quebec, then to Paris, France by prison ship. He was traded to England in a Prisoner of War Exchange and arrived about 1759 at London, England.


John met and married an English lady, Elizabeth. They were married in about 1759 in London, England an they left London, England in about 1760 and arrived at Elizabeth Town, Sussex, New Jersey. They lived in Newton, Sussex County, NJ. USA in1789, 1790 and 1795.


John and Elizabeth had the following children:

John emigrated in about 1810 to Lincoln County, ON, Canada. He died in 1817 at St. Ann's, Gainsborough Twp, ON. and was buried in 1817 at St. Ann's Cemetary, ON.
